Boiler Suits (or Boilersuits)

John B. Marine | 10:03 AM | |
(UPDATED: April 21, 2023)

Boiler suits (or boilersuits) offer urban utilitarian style. These jumpsuits are the kind of hard working chic that works as hard as the ones who wear boiler suits. Maybe you are curious as to how you could get into these. If this is you, then let me discuss boiler suits with you all. I'll share as much as I can about these suits.

Boiler Suits (or Boilersuits)

I couldn't find a decent picture to use for a boiler suit example, so I am posting a video instead to set the mood of this post.

^ How to Style: The Boiler Suit

Even if your profession isn't industrial-related, you can still look stylish wearing a boiler suit. The origins of boiler suits date back to them first being used in working with coal boilers in buildings or in trains back in the past. Such suits have a utilitarian feel to them. They give you that feel of being a hard worker. A boiler suit is a cool unisex jumpsuit. They are usually dominated by a pair of big flap pockets on the front. They offer the appeal of cargo garments. Therefore, they can be stylish for both males and females.

Styling a Boilersuit.

For males, a boiler suit easily would go with workwear-type sneakers or boots. For females, a pair of industrial occupation shoes or industrial occupation boots will work. If you fancy making a true juxtaposition, try having a boyish jumpsuit paired with some very feminine heels. That means a pair of high-heel pumps, some high-heel sandals, some chic boots, or even some chic clogs or mules. Or if you're the tough fashionista, rock some combat boots with a boiler suit. I would avoid sneakers with boiler suits unless they are work-related sneakers or work-related rubber.

If you want a quick idea of a boilersuit outfit, let me visualize a fashionista. Imagine wearing an olive green boiler suit paired with some beige high-heel pumps or with some brown ankle boots.

Blogger Influence.

I did not really research many other blogs in preparing this section, but I figured I'd show some bloggers whom have worn boiler suits. So take a look at these examples to see how boiler suits were styled:

"The Must-Have Jumpsuit Trend of the Season!" (Dress Well, Be Well) « a green boiler suit.
"Cargo Jumpsuit" (North of Manhattan) « a gray boiler suit.
Maybe I will add more examples in edits to this post. These will do for now, though.

Boiler Suits: Final Thoughts

I think boiler suits are cool. I wouldn't wear one, but I know there are a lot of urban and work types who would gladly wear these. One does not have to work in some kind of industrial occupation to wear a boiler suit. If you want utilitarian, urban, working cool; you can do no wrong with a boiler suit. So go find yourself a boiler suit if you like what I discussed here!
