Cropped Top With Suits

John B. Marine | 9:39 PM | | |
Nothing is as empowering as a classy suit. Cropped tops are a stylish way to beat the heat. Now try combining the two for the purpose of this upcoming blog post. Usually, cropped tops are not considered classy and/or professional. However, and of late, we have had shorts suits and fashionistas pairing chic suits with cropped tops. I am here to discuss pairing cropped tops with suits and even share thoughts regarding cropped top suits.

I am glad you're here. Let's get it!

Cropped Tops With Suits

A proper suit or well-structured separates provide classy and professional appeal. Classy suits for fashionistas can be in the form of pant suits, skirt suits, and even dress suits. Short suits have become popular, though not many workplaces would approve of any real shorts suits. Button-down shirts or button-down blouses suit suits quite well and keeps things professional. Even if a fashionista is not exactly the daring type, a fashionista may find comfort and style wearing some kind of cropped top. Cropped tops, often times, are not considered classy or professional tops to wear. A cropped top can be about as casual as denim jeans or any garden variety of sneakers. Perhaps warmer temperatures have resulted in some fashionistas wearing cropped tops to go with their suits just to stay cool. Or, a fashionista may simply want to look hot while also dressing classy.

No matter what the case, there are reasons why one would want to wear a cropped top with a suit. The way I see it, as we have had cut out dresses, cut out rompers/playsuits, and cut out jumpsuits; pairing a cropped top with a suit is not too much different.

One thing I want you to keep in mind as you read this post is that the cropped top with suit look pertains to any cropped top with midriff exposed.

Cropped Tops With Suits: Exposing Midriff.

Is it acceptable to wear a cropped top, even with a suit? Many people have their own say about cropped tops in general. Some argue cropped tops can be revealing or give off the wrong sort of message about one's beauty. Some wear cropped tops simply to stay cool. A cropped top may simply be worn for some fashionable type (not necessarily females) to showcase their midsection.

As someone who loved the daring midriff-bearing of the 1990s, I have been attracted to the appeal of cropped tops. We all seen in the 1990s singers like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, and countless other pop stars of that decade showcase their midriff in cropped tops and sometimes low-waist bottoms. Times today have seen the cropped top re-emerge, but rather than low-slung bottoms, high-waist bottoms are complimented by cropped tops. This gives sort of a chance to extend the life of cropped tops and offer more versatility to wearing cropped tops.

Is Midriff Okay While Wearing a Suit?

Unless you have nightmares about the 1990s in showing off your midriff, it is fairly okay to showcase midriff, even in a classy suit. Some people dislike seeing others show off their midriff. Some even would frown against showing off your midriff in about the same sense as flaunting your cleavage. Let's face it- you are less likely to face backlash wearing a cropped top than flaunting your cleavage. One fashion blogger suggests midriff should be done like consuming alcoholic beverages- best done in moderation. I would say the "safe zone" would be anywhere between below the chest and above the navel. Flashing a little midriff is okay, but unless you got the daring '90s girl in you, you may not be as classy wearing a cropped top with a suit. Most people wouldn't want to see something like (for example) your navel (or even your navel piercing if you have one), some tattoos on your lower back, on the sides of your stomach, maybe some tattoos around your navel or lower stomach, or anything like that. That is... unless you want to show them off with a cropped suit. It would then depend on what setting you intend to wear such a look to. If you are wearing a suit with a cropped top for some semi-formal occasion or maybe a date night, you're fine. However, if you are wearing a suit with a cropped top to something like a child-oriented function or an ultra serious formal occasion, you probably may get frowned upon.

Cropped Top With Suits: What Works?

Showing cropped top style in a suit can be done in a number of ways. Here are a number of considerations from me...

* If you simply have a simple cropped top to wear, that is pretty much fine for pairing a suit with a cropped top. All you'd need to do now is find a decent pair of classy bottoms and some classy footwear to complete the look.

* (I could not find a proper picture example for this suggestion.) Maybe you don't need a proper cropped top- simply knot a T-shirt or certain shirts you already own! I would reserve this for more casual settings. Since this is a more casual application for cropped tops with suits, classy/chic shoes are not required. You could even go with sneakers or combat boots for this more casual pairing of a cropped top with a suit. I would avoid any expressive graphic T-shirts (such as band tees) or even any with offensive messages.

* If you are feeling a bit ambitious, you can wear a bralet/bralette with a suit for a romantic touch. It would be recommended to wear a bralet/bralette that is not too revealing. A classy and professional blazer with classy bottoms will complete the look very well. If going with a bralet/bralette to go with a suit, avoid sneakers, combat boots, or some other ultra-casual footwear.

• You may have seen me vote against sneakers with cropped top + suit outfits. There are SOME exceptions where certain sneakers don't ruin the overall flow of what is supposed to be a classy look. It is just that a lot of sneakers will ruin any classy or elegant flow of a such an outfit.

Now for some final thoughts on cropped tops with suits. Read on...

Cropped Tops With Suits: Final Thoughts

Wearing a cropped top with a suit combines the flirty appeal of a cropped top with the classiness of wearing a suit. There is a certain limit to the midriff you show to where you can remain elegant and classy even while showing your midriff in a suit. How much you want to show off depends on the setting and what kind of cropped top you plan on wearing to go with a classy or chic suit. As long as the cropped top isn't trashy or overly sexy, any fashionista should be fine sporting a cropped top with a classy suit.
