BEFORE I BEGIN...
There are varieties of big toe shoes. The kind I will focus on in this blog post are peep-toe shoes that only show the big toe.Big Toe Shoes
I had arranged to only discuss open-toe shoes of the big toe. After doing my typing up my original blog post, I decided to focus on both peep-toe big toe shoes and also closed big toe shoes in this blog post. I will start with my original thoughts on peep-toe big toe shoes. Get ready...
Big-Toe Shoes: Peep-Toe Type.
Here is an example of the kind of shoes I will be discussing:^ from: Bustle (best example I could use) - "Let's have some peep-toe shoes ONLY exposing the big toe. That will be stylish!"
The big toe trend is one of the latest shoe styles to pop up recently. For fashionistas used to peep-toe shoes and open-toe shoes, these big toe shoes offer the same kind of open-air comfort and charm offered by the aforementioned peep-toe and open-toe shoes. These openings at the toes can be stylish ranging from flats, high-heels, or wedges. I personally find peep-toe and open-toe shoes to look best with either high heels or platforms. Anyhow, instead of exposing the middle toes or all toes, only the big toe is exposed in big-toe shoes.
Most of you know what I like to say. I often say in this situation, "different doesn't always mean better." I certainly find little to love about big-toe shoes. Unless you are really proud of showing off your big toes, I'd steer clear of these big-toe shoes. Having only your big toe exposed throws off the balance of your feet. Also, just having your big toe exposed just looks all kinds of awkward. I've had holes in my socks at the big toe that look better than most of these big toe shoes of late.
Big-Toe Shoes: Sandals Type.
^ from: (Pinterest) - Some big-toe shoes only cover the big toes, leaving the other four toes exposed like on these sandals.
Instead of showing off the big toes, this style only features the big toe covered. It's a different take on a traditional sandal, but this is not stylish while being scores less awkward in design than the peep-toe big toe style. I would still prefer basic flip-flop/thong sandals or any kind of slide sandals instead.
My final thoughts on big toe shoes are coming up. Go to the next section.
Big Toe Shoes: Final Thoughts
Before I get into my final thoughts on big-toe shoes, I'd like to express a few thoughts leading up to my final thoughts on big-toe shoes. Think about why sandals and peep-toe and open-toe shoes are stylish. You get the open-air comfort and touches of style. Peep-toe and open-toe shoes can be cute and even romantic at times. For vintage types or for those looking for a pretty way to show off your toes, you can do no wrong with these style of shoes. Any fashionista who is feeling flirty or hot can lovingly show off her middle toes or all of her toes with open-toe shoes. Showing off mostly the middle toes in these aforementioned shoes just simply works. When styled well, your beauty will be elevated in peep-toe shoes or open-toe shoes.
However, big-toe shoes are a major fail for two main reasons. First off, just showing off your big toes or focusing only on your big toes gives an awkward profile up front and on the sides. Second, your other toes don't get to stylishly impact your outfit. The problem with big toe shoes is that they lack the level of appeal and charm a basic pair of peep-toe or open-toes provide. I have not seen a pair of big toe shoes that I like or would recommend in building an outfit.
The only ones I'd give recommendation of big toe shoes is if you're trying to look different and separate yourselves from the fashion-forward pack. Compliments to you about wearing such shoes will be about as rare as seeing the Hale-Bopp comet. This is up in the category of ugly shoes as almost any Birkenstock sandals. As much as I hate to say this, even Birkenstock sandals look better than almost any of these big toe shoes or sandals.
Long story short... stay away from these shoes. You don't need them in your shoe collection. Their awkwardness in style and appearance make them intolerable to the minds of most style lovers. I find no redeeming or stylish qualities to these shoes whatsoever. Even if I somehow ease up on big-toe shoes like I have with peep-toe boots, I am still not going to praise these big-toe shoes or even recommend them for any such outfits any time soon. Get yourself some proper peep-toe shoes, open-toe-shoes, or sandals instead.
At least... those are my thoughts. Feel free to think what you want about the shoes I've mentioned in this blog post.
