7 Tips to Help You Buy the Right Shoes

So many people are looking at the wrong things when they go to buy shoes. Sure, you want shoes that look nice, but factors like comfort, support and fit should be higher priorities. Shoes that do not fit right or offer enough support can cause or contribute to many of the most common foot problems.

Since finding the right shoes is so important to foot health, you need to know how to find the right pair for your feet. Read on to see seven tips for finding the right shoes.

Come Prepared

You don’t wear shoes without socks and you might even have different pairs of socks for different types of shoes. If you want to make sure the shoes will feel good when you wear them, you need to make sure to bring the type of socks you plan to wear with them. Also, if you use any shoe inserts, you should make sure to bring those as well.

Avoid Heals

Wearing your favorite pair of women’s supportive sandals might not always be an option. If you do need a pair of formal shoes or you can’t wear sandals to work, you should avoid high-heels. High heels shift more of your weight to the balls of your feet and your toes. If you wear them enough, this can cause problems for your feet.

Shop Later in the Day

Most people’s feet tend to swell toward the end of the day. Since your feet will be larger at the end of a long day, this is the best time to try on shoes. If you were to shop in the morning, you might buy a pair that seems comfortable only to find that they feel tight when you are wearing them in the afternoon or evening.

Measure Every Time

Your shoe size can change as you age. Just because you have been a size nine for the last five years does not mean that you are today. Always measure your feet to make sure you are looking at the right sizes when you shop.

Trust the Feel

Sometimes shoes might feel a little too tight or too loose even when they are your size. Instead of trusting the number on a label, you should trust the way the shoes feel.

Take a Walk

Don’t just slip the shoes on to see how they feel when you are sitting. Stand in the shoes and try to wiggle your toes. If they still feel good, take a few minutes to walk around the store. You are not looking for men’s comfortable sneakers to sit in, so you need to see how they feel when you walk.

Test the Toes

A crowded toe box is going to lead to foot problems. Make sure you not only have enough room for your toes to sit comfortably in the shoe, check to make sure there is enough room from the end of your toes to the front of the shoe. In general, there should be about a half-inch from the end of the longest toe to the front of the shoe. Finding the right pair of shoes will be beneficial. Along with preventing foot problems, your feet will just feel better when you wear them.
