Flip-flop/Thong sandals are the most popular sandals for warm weather times. One can buy a basic pair of flip-flop/thong sandals on the cheap. However, what if you want thong sandals that look more interesting? Well, I'm here to talk about some not-so-basic thong sandals. These are more interesting thong sandals that I want to discuss. If you're expecting the usual flat thong sandals with the rather skinny thong parts to them, this is NOT your blog post. At the least, you will see some thicker thong straps or even some thicker sole thong sandals. So let's get it!

Not-So-Basic Thong Sandals

The flip-flop/thong sandal has long been a popular style of sandals to wear. While females wear them a lot, there are even some flip-flop/thong sandals males often times wear. More popularly, though, are the flip-flop. I personally have not had a problem with seeing flip-flops worn. Especially if a fashionista enjoys showing off her feet, some thong sandals are simple footwear for which to enjoy open-air comfort of the feet and look stylish all the while.

There are some who actually dislike flip-flop sandals. Some say they should only be for going to the beach. The popularity of flip-flop sandals may have waned with the popularity of rubber clogs. No matter how you feel about flip-flop sandals, they have their own appeal.

What if you love the appeal of flip-flop/thong sandals but want something more interesting than the basic flat flip-flops? What if you wanted thong sandals with a little more personality? You know- a platform base, a wedge style, bolder thong straps, furry, maybe some embellishments, maybe with straps for your ankles? Well, check out some of the examples I want to showcase in this blog post...

Sure, the example above still seems like an average pair of thong sandals. However, the bolder straps and the chunky platform base have more personality and style than an average pair of flip-flop sandals. There is even a bit of heel detal with the wedge-like design. Thong sandals such as these can be seen as the upgrade over some basic flip-flops while still enjoying the look and feel of thong sandals.


If those sandals still seem basic, let's try some more interesting thong sandals. Here you go:

More aggressive thong sandals have elements to them that make them more interesting sandals to wear than any average flip-flops. Thong sandals such as the above model are styled more aggressively while still being plenty stylish to wear. So do not be afraid pairing these sandals with your cutest shorts or even your loveliest daytime dresses.

Gladiator Thong Sandals.

Let's crank up the boldness a bit more. The gladiator thong sandals featured in this section will get progressively bolder, so check it:


^ from: Walmart - Gladiator thong sandals can be fierce, but this is a more tame pair of gladiator sandals.

Thong sandals, though, encompass a variety of styles. A great alternative to those who love thong sandals but do not like the flip-flop types are gladitor thong sandals. Gladiator thong sandals usually have a long strap going across towards the ankles. These are also bolder-style sandals. Unlike most gladiator sandals, though, gladiator thong sandals are a bit more tolerable and nicer than your garden variety gladiator sandals (at least, to me).

Gladiator sandals like the ones above can be bold without overdoing it. If you are fine with a pair of thong sandals that don't completely overwhelm your feet, seek some gladiator thong sandals such as the ones featured above.


^ from: Lyst.com - These are a low pair of extreme gladiator thong sandals. The basic thong style of thong sandal is there, but it is met with a bevy of straps, buckles, and a zipper.

If you fear Greek mythology will call you and want their sandals back, then avoid extreme gladiator thong sandals such as the two examples featured above. Gladiator sandals can either be of the low variety or of the tall variety. They also may or may not have buckles, zippers, or even laces. Thong sandals with a gladiator sandal appearance can provide the boldest and fiercest fashion statement.

Final Thoughts.

The intent of this blog post was not to make fun of flip-flop/thong sandals. I instead wanted to focus on thong-type sandals that are more interesting in design and offer some more style and personality than a simple pair of flip-flop sandals. Thong sandals are very much a stylish pair of sandals to wear for a variety of fashionable folks (even males who wear thong sandals). However, the basic design of average flip-flops can be made more interesting with bolder and sharper designs. Even adding a platform base or a wedge design can elevate the style of thong sandals. Thong sandals with bolder designs can make for chic footwear to compliment a handful of mostly daytime fashions. Some more interesting thong sandals may even be chic enough for some night-out fashions. If you enjoy the appeal that flip-flop sandals provide but want some more interesting thong sandals, this blog post exposed you to what is possible with more intricately-designed thong sandals. Proudly wear any footwear to your heart's content!
