Is Victoria's Secret Still Cool?

John B. Marine | 3:10 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
Victoria's Secret has fallen from grace the past few years. This company is still famous for the hottest lingerie and all the casual "PINK" clothing for young fans. Who doesn't want to be a Victoria's Secret Angel? It had a vastly praised annual fashion show. Of late, though? Plenty of issues. Things such as Victoria's Secret slamming the notion of plus size and transgender modeling have made some fans push aside Victoria's Secret and all the company stands for. There have been recent reports of harassment and unfair treatment among past Victoria's Secret Angels and various other persons associated with Victoria's Secret. All of these things add up to possibly wondering if Victoria's Secret is still relevant or cool these days. This is a question I hope to answer in my own way in this blog post.

Before I Begin...

First "StyleSpace by JBM" post of 2020! Happy new year! :D

Is Victoria's Secret Still Cool?

People have their thoughts, and I will definitely share mine. Here's the best image I could find to provide the mood for this post:

Victoria's Secret
^ from: (YouTube) - Is Victoria's Secret still cool? My thoughts are expressed in this post.

If you are any kind of hot or fashionable female, you've probably heard of Victoria's Secret at some point. The brand is synonymous with clothing for the hot and confident woman. Younger types who still want to feel fun and hot are usually into Victoria Secret's PINK line. If you want to work up a sweat with Victoria's Secret, you have the Victoria Sport (or VSX) brand. Victoria's Secret has something for every fashionista mostly 18 or older. To promote the brand globally, some of the loveliest ladies parade their Victoria's Secret wardrobe with the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. These Victoria's Secret Angels are among some of the most attractive women in the world showcasing absolute confidence and charm. Personally, I loved South African model Candice Swanepoel among the Victoria's Secret Angels.

Despite all of the love people have given Victoria's Secret over the years, they have been under fire for a number of reasons. I can recall VS ranted on once as they once thought of a clothing collection for younger types (like children or very young teens. Victoria's Secret rejected the notion of plus-size models for their clothing. They also rejected the notion of transgender models for their clothing. In recent years, the once-popular Victoria's Secret Fashion Show had ratings drop as well as the show being entirely canceled. This leads people to believe that Victoria's Secret as a whole is a sinking ship. It is a ship that has taken some damage at the bottom and is slowly going under.

A lot of what you have read so far points towards Victoria's Secret is not as enticing and fun as it used to be. So is it still a cool brand? Does there possibly need to be some sort of change to keep Victoria's Secret relevant? Let me offer my own ideas here.

Is Victoria's Secret Still Cool? I Say...

...yes. I doubt a vast majority of fashionistas will treat Victoria's Secret as if they are boycotting the brand. People would have to REALLY hate Victoria's Secret to where it no longer becomes any sort of iconic designer brand. That even includes seeing all the "PINK" and "LOVE PINK" casual clothing among young fans of the brand. I still think Victoria's Secret is the brand for the confident and hot fashionista. Honestly, this company has to be better accepting of various women as well as not make statements that will ruffle the feathers of various fashionistas.

Unless some other designer is on the same wavelength of what Victoria's Secret stands for in terms of apparel and appeal, I doubt Victoria's Secret will completely fall into irrelevance. Even still, Victoria's Secret really needs to clean up its image to avoid being completely left for dead. It can still be a designer offering flirty and sexy clothing and intimates while not being a brand with some completely corrupt leadership or controversial practices. More of the issues of Victoria's Secret's are more internal rather than people disliking their clothing as a whole or anything. So while I say Victoria's Secret is still cool, they are still a number of false steps away from falling into obscurity. They have to get things together- and QUICK.

Those are my thoughts. What say you?

Is Victoria's Secret still cool to you?

I hope you enjoyed my commentary piece here. Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Free People

John B. Marine | 8:43 PM | | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
@FreePeople is a popular designer among many a fashionista. Founded in 1984, they mostly offer Bohemian-type fashions to mostly young females. Considering how popular Bohemian fashion is, this company is a boon to the Bohemian fashion style. This blog post will offer my own introduction to Free People to all of my visitors of "StyleSpace by JBM." So if this is your first time, welcome to my unconventional fashion and beauty blog! Enjoy your stay! :)

A Note About "Brands" Posts

All posts under the Brands category on "StyleSpace by JBM" are solely based on opinion. I offer my own opinions about anything featured under such labels. Either I mention brands myself or am contacted by certain individuals for their brands to be promoted.

Free People

As mentioned in the introduction, Free People was founded in 1984 and headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. They mostly specialize in casual Bohemian-style fashions enjoyed mostly by young fashionistas. The Bohemian fashion style entails easy-going and comfortable style. They offer fashions that are enjoyed by a vast number of people. Free People has a handful of dresses, skirts, denim, pants, and even intimates. Not all of their offerings are casual, though. For instance, I saw an elegant maxi dress from their site as I was researching for this topic.

The designer also offers a variety of footwear ranging from casual footwear to chic offerings. Their offerings won't exactly make the likes of Converse or any world-renowned shoe designer shake in their shoes, but they do provide great-looking footwear for a number of fashion types. Their footwear portfolio includes various pumps, sneakers, lace-up shoes, sandals, and boots of various lengths. So when you put together an outfit with Free People, look to Free People to complete your outfit with a fine pair of shoes.

Free People mostly is the kind of designer to tailor to the tastes of Bohemian or even vintage types. They seem more for the Bohemian or vintage set rather than anything edgy, urban, super chic, or anything like that.

Free People Insight

Here are some items pertaining to Free People. Take a look at these videos to gain some insight on Free People and their fashion insights:

^ Free People Presents | Summer of Love

^ Nashville Road Trip | Free People

^ Get Into the Groove | Lookbooks | Free People

All videos were from Free People's YouTube channel. I tried to come up with blogger insight on Free People, but I couldn't find anybody immediately to showcase Free People fashions to all of you. Maybe I will add some in edits to this blog post.

Free People: Final Thoughts

Free People is a popular designer for a reason. They may not arouse you for seductive fashions or world-class chic styles, but they do offer chic fashions for the easy casual girl. This is a designer that is about being a leader and not a follower. The fashions and the styles of Free People speak highly to the character of Bohemian and vintage fashion. So if you're wanting to break free and be free, look to Free People!

Tribal Prints

John B. Marine | 10:46 PM | | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
Tribal (or ethnic) prints have trended for the longest. They offer unique colorful prints to compliment a number of different outfits. They provide unique edginess as well as a smattering of color. Everything from intimates to dresses (and even footwear) can be adorned with tribal prints of some kind. For the most part, tribal prints have become a go-to style for warm weather fashion, and many a fashionista have been awed over the styling touch tribal prints provide. When it comes to tribal prints, you will mostly see feminine pieces with wild and intricate tribal prints, mostly with bottoms and dresses. Some tribal tops are worn, and you may even see tribal print rompers/playsuits. Tribal prints even can be found on footwear. I've seen wedge sandals that have tribal prints to them, for example.

The only real problem (if any) in regards to tribal prints is the feeling of certain Indian tribes being disgraced seeing such prints featured. In fact, there was one time in which Coach had a controversial marketing campaign called "A Tribe Called Coach." A number of their wares was considered offensive to certain Native American tribes, including a red skull from one of their bracelets. The outrage led some people to think Coach could give back to Native American communities and tribes instead of trying to financially profit from certain Native American communities.

IN CASE YOU'RE INTERESTED: You can read more about Coach's controversial "A Tribe Called Coach" line from this article: Native Americans insulted by Coach handbags’ ‘Tribe Called Coach’ collection.

Contact me if you have a relevant post I should look at. If I like your post, I may update these blog posts with a link to your blog! Help me help my audience.

--- Tribal Prints: Final Thoughts ---

As a styling exercise, I haven't any problem with tribal prints. I don't find them as any sort of fashion faux pas. Only thing I would probably discourage is trying to combine more than one set of tribal prints. So for example, go with only one tribal print item to serve as your tribal print piece. Don't try to do any pattern clashing or anything. Tribal prints offer a great base of style. The uniquely edgy style of tribal print makes them wearable and fashionable for any number of applications. Don't think this styling exercise can only be for things like music festivals. If you're daring, try going with any number of tribal print garments and accessories for any number of situations or styles. You will not disappoint as long as you have a great eye for style by trying to style tribal prints.

The main discussion points have been made in this blog post. You may take part in the next section, or skip it entirely. Your call.

Floral Rompers/Playsuits

John B. Marine | 12:57 AM | | | 2 Comments so far
(UPDATED: June 8, 2023)
Rompers/Playsuits are very fashionable. Floral rompers have been very most popular of rompers/playsuits. With Spring coming, nothing says Spring like flowers, and a great way to embrace warmer weather is with rompers. Combine the two, and you're talking about floral rompers. This blog post is about floral rompers, which are pretty popular especially among those who love rompers to begin with.

Because they are called either rompers or playsuits, I included both terms. I often use "romper/playsuit" in comments, though I will still use "romper" to describe this garment.

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S):

JUN 8 2023 - simple edits

Floral Rompers/Playsuits

Here is a sample floral romper/playsuit to set the mood for this post:

floral romper playsuit
^ from: Amazon - Floral rompers are quite popular. Lots of fashionable types are wearing them, including flirty floral rompers like this one.

Unless you think rompers/playsuits are to be worn only by babies and kids, there is no denying the appeal of a romper. These one-piece shorts can range from cute to sexy. The hottest thing about today's rompers (especially short ones) is that they can be ridiculously short- almost as short as some mini dresses or some short dresses! Of course, you are covered in a romper, which is the most important thing. There may be sleeves ranging from short ones to long ones, even including bell sleeve or balloon sleeve types. Some may even be strapped rompers or strapless. The advent of rompers with floral prints are no doubt very girly and cute. Such floral rompers range in design from small flowers to elaborate and colorful floral prints. Only complaint about rompers many will agree with is that they can be inconvenient if you have to use the bathroom or something.

How you choose to style a romper- let alone a floral romper is up to you. Throw on a denim vest or a denim jacket to go with a floral romper. There are a number of fashionistas who pair floral rompers with cute flats or some chic sandals. Some even go with boots of various heights. Edgy fashionistas even dare wear While I don't think floral rompers look good with them, sneakers are sometimes paired with floral rompers. No matter what, floral rompers surely provide sweet style depending on how you style them.

Floral Rompers/Playsuits Around the Internet

Do you want to see what floral rompers look like and how others style them? Take a look at how these fashionistas rock floral rompers. Descriptions of each item are featured along with the actual blog post itself. Some personalities may appear more than once:

"Last Sunshine" (Preppy Fashionist) « a beautiful bell-sleeve floral romper.
"Flower Power" (Preppy Fashionist) « a cute and flirty floral romper.
"Floral Romper" (Sara's Sweet Style) « a black floral romper.
"Fall Garden" (The Haute Blonde) « a strapless floral romper with ankle boots.
"Motel Rocks My World" (Hapa Time) « a black floral romper.
"Deerland Beach!" (Nany's Klozet) « a denim blue floral romper with oxford shoes.
"In Bloom" (KirstyDoll) « a floral romper paired with platform sandals.
"Garden Fresh" (by details) « a strapless floral romper with a long vest.
"Romp-Fall" (whatever is lovely) « a black, yet colorful floral romper with chic booties.
"Sky's the Limit" (Thirstythought) « a floral romper that looks that more like an A-Line/skater dress.
"Love Clothing" (Camille Tries to Blog) « a floral romper paired with a floral blazer.
"Floral Romper" (WILDFIRE STYLED) « a floral romper with a somewhat deep neckline.
"introducing...the beatrice." (tuolomee) « a black floral romper with a long dress feel.
"Floral Romper" (My White T) « an off-white floral romper with blue floral details.

And for various other floral rompers...

This is an old video, but here is one lady wearing several floral rompers. I personally like all of them... especially the last one:

^ "Fun with Rompers"

So as you can see, there are quite a few fashionable femmes who wear floral rompers.

Floral Rompers: Final Thoughts

Nothing wrong with rompers/playsuits. Nothing wrong with floral prints. Nothing wrong with floral rompers. So go wear these proudly. The girly appeal and charm of floral rompers make them the finest garment for warmer weather along with the most popular style for rompers. Embrace Spring with a stylish romper dress with floral patterns! You got my approval on these.

American Apparel "Disco" Series

John B. Marine | 2:41 PM | | | | 2 Comments so far
American Apparel's Disco bottoms are in vogue for this blog post. If you follow fashion in some capacity, you may have seen these slim and shiny bottoms worn by many a fashionista. This blog post offers a look at these popular bottoms as well as my thoughts on these Disco bottoms from American Apparel.

The post is called "American Apparel Disco Series" to refer to both the American Apparel Disco Pants and Disco Shorts. However, most of my discussion will mostly pertain to the popular Disco Pants rather than a mixed focus on the pants and the shorts.

--- American Apparel Disco Pants and Shorts ---

High-waisted and shiny, the Disco Pants and Disco Shorts from American Apparel are popular among many a fashion blogger. These form-fitting bottoms have high waists and a pair of back pockets. These bottoms are therefore more functional and more proper as pants and shorts than any average pair of leggings or tights. Among the fashion community, many have worn these American Apparel Disco pants and shorts with any number of outfits. I have seen more of the Disco pants more than the Disco shorts.

Here is a look at both the "Disco" pants and the "Disco" shorts...

American Apparel Disco Pants.

Have a look at these pants, fashionable folks:

American Apparel Disco pants
^ from: www.amazon.com - These are the ever-popular Disco pants from American Apparel. These are legging-tight high-waist pants with a shiny appearance.

Popular among many fashionable types worldwide, the slim-fitting, shiny Disco pants from American Apparel are vastly popular. The highlights of these pants are their high waists and legging-like tightness. These pants are also functional with their back pockets. I have often seen these paired with items ranging from them being tucking tops into them to even wearing cropped tops with these pants for the high-waist midriff look. As for footwear, I've seen everything from the fiercest shoes and sandals to boots ranging from lace-up booties to knee-high boots.

American Apparel Disco Shorts.

Meet the shorts cousin of the Disco pants:

American Apparel Disco Shorts
^ from: www.amazon.com - These AA Disco shorts have the same appeal as the AA Disco pants, but you can show LOTS more leg with these bottoms.

The American Apparel Disco Shorts are form-fitting, not to mention a bit cheeky. You can even enjoy the high-waist appeal and the high-waist midriff look by wearing the American Apparel Disco shorts. The Disco shorts are not as popular as its pants counterpart, but these shorts surely are as fashionable as the Disco pants.

American Apparel Disco Series: Online Insight.

I've given you an idea on these pants and shorts. Now, some online insight. Get your inspirations here:

"[Sponsored] Fevrie Fashion Review" (Alexa Ober) « the American Apparel Disco pants in black.

"Excavated" (GrooveBunny) « the Disco Shorts in red.

"Rainbow Disco" (Aki no Yuutsu) « the pants worn with a dark pink blazer and a cropped T-shirt.

"American Apparel Disco" on LOOKBOOK (includes both Disco pants and shorts outfits)

Now for some final thoughts on these bottoms. Get ready.

--- American Apparel Disco: Final Thoughts ---

In no way am I crazy over the Disco pants or Disco shorts. What I will say, though, is that these bottoms are popular for many reasons. I am not as crazy about these bottoms as a lot of other fashionable types are. It isn't as if I will recommend either the Disco pants or shorts for an outfit. That shouldn't stop you from putting outfits together with these Disco bottoms, though. The fact these are more functional and proper bottoms than most leggings should make them an appealing and practical option for any fashionable person.

Cross-Promotion/Other Reading.

I put together this list of posts featuring topics related to this one regarding American Apparel's "Disco" pants and shorts. Take a look and enjoy my past posts:

^ The American Apparel "Disco" pants and shorts have high waists. This blog post is all about high-waist bottoms, including shorts, pants, jeans, skirts, and more.

Be sure to enjoy more of my blog posts instead of just the most recent ones.

Lolita Fashion

John B. Marine | 6:47 PM | | | | | 3 Comments so far
Feminine and oh-so-cute, lolita fashion is expressive and creative. Pretty skirts and dresses along with lovely hairstyles and wigs make lolita fashion fun and expressive. Don't forget all the cute colors and patterns to these outfits as well. You don't have to be Japanese to enjoy lolita-type fashions. In fact, there are many females of many nationalities that partake in lolita fashion and dressing up so cutely. You have Americans, Canadians, various Europeans, and others worldwide that have their own twist on lolita fashion. I won't provide an outright look at lolita fashion, but I can introduce it to my "StyleSpace by JBM" audience.

This blog post is more or less a digest on lolita fashion. I'm not going to express any tips or anything on lolita fashion here.

--- Lolita Fashion ---

Random image I selected to set the mood for this blog post (I'll find another image if I can't use it for copyright reasons):

lolita fashion
^ from: kerli.buzznet.com (links to image source) - Lolita fashion offers kawaii (cute) style.

Lolita Fashion at a Glance.

If you are not a girly-girl or dislike anything really cute, this may not be the kind of style that will please you. Lolita fashion dates back to the 1970s in Japan. The trademarks of lolita chic mostly lie with super girly and doll-like outfits. These are usually girly or poofy skirts and dresses. Cute hairstyles or wigs are complimented either with pretty hair adornments or hats. Cute shoes and boots are worn along with some pretty tights or socks. The shoes themselves can either be some girly shoes or some boots, and they may either be flats or platforms (usually platform shoes).

Rather than super-girly colors, you have even Gothic lolita fashions. Just trade the pretty colors for dark and evil black colors. Maybe even trade the cute-colored shoes and tights for dark-colored and dark-hued colors. How about a pair of black knee-high lace up platform boots instead of some super-cute mary jane platforms?

Most of the emphasis in lolita fashion is on pretty. I've always seen these outfits as a showcase of pretty. I love lolita fashion for the expressive and colorful nature of these outfits. A lot of the ladies who dress up lolita style are very cute and very girly. Many are almost like living dolls the way these females are so expressive with these lolita outfits. Such outfits and items can be bought online, but a lot of females make their own lolita outfits. Famous companies who design such noteworthy lolita fashions include the likes of Antenna and Baby the Stars Shine Bright.

Lolita Fashion: Why Should You Care?

Does lolita fashion spark interest to overshadow the world's finest designers? Absolutely not. Is lolita fashion incredibly chic and fashionable? No. Are these sexy and romantic fashions? Not at all. So why should you even care? First of all, fashion doesn't have to be overly chic to be of anyone's interest. Lolita fashion has its own appeal. Maybe lolita fashion may seem too much like costumes rather than wearable pieces you can enjoy any time of year. But on the other hand, lolita fashion is as much about expression as any other style of fashion or any subculture of fashion. Traditional lolita fashion is defined and characterized by girly and cute outfits.

Lolita Fashion: Video Perspective.

Let me show you a video or two offering up some insight on lolita fashion. The video, just like almost anything I post, is provided for educational purposes. Take a look or click on the link below the video to view on YouTube (and thank you to the one who allowed this video to be embedded):

Here is another video with a lot of other lolita fashions:

Lolita Fashion: Did You Know...

Before I go any further, let me share with you something. What I will be discussing is the super-cute and super-creative realm of Japanese lolita fashion. But...

...did you know that the "lolita" namesake comes from a novel called "Lolita," which is about a little girl who was raped by her pedophile stepfather? I learned of this from a YouTube comment as I was researching this topic.

Perhaps this novel and its influences exhibit why lolita fashion seems childish in appearance.

Now that you have some insight on lolita fashion from a combination of my commentary and the featured videos, how about we take a further look at lolita?

--- Lolita Fashion Around the Internet ---

Let me use this space to show you either lolita fashion or lolita-inspired fashion. If you adore the works of the featured personalities, feel free to Follow and Subscribe to their blogs to keep up with their latest posts (granted their blogs are still updated). These are all either lolita fashions or lolita-inspired fashions:

"Snow Chant..." (Dreaming with fae creatures) « a Polish lady with a lolita-style outfit.
"Sweet Lolita" « not a traditional lolita outfit, but a lolita-inspired outfit.
"Dolly Castle" (Cupcake's Clothes) « A British lady with a lolita-like outfit.

The bloggers above are some of the ones to immediately come to mind. These others are blogs I don't follow, but I want to feature to help provide more inspiration to you all.
-untitled- (DaniLamb Designs) « an American in a lolita outfit for a fair.
-untitled- (Welcome to a Sweet World) « a sailor lolita outfit.

("lolita" search results on LOOKBOOK) « lolita outfits on LOOKBOOK (not all are traditional lolita outfits)

As you can tell from some of the featured persons, you need not be Japanese or be from Japan to embrace lolita fashion style. All you mostly need is an eye for creativity and embracing that lolita charm.

--- Lolita Fashion: Final Thoughts ---

Lolita fashion is a style of its own with unique flair and charm. Lolita chic isn't exclusively Japanese. Those with the creativity to sport such girly and cute outfits and offer the various makeup and beauty touches are the ones who truly shine with lolita chic. This style will not woo those into more refined and chic outfits and styles. Then again, I'm sure most who rock lolita couldn't care less. This is a unique style with wonderful character. The array of colors mixed in with the various other touches make most females look amazing. Even if lolita is very costume-like, at least this is costume-like that can be just as beautiful as any more refined outfit or style. So if you adore lolita fashion, rock your lolita style and enjoy lolita chic!

Nautical Chic

John B. Marine | 3:00 PM | | | | | 5 Comments so far
Set sail for style with nautical chic! It is a popular trend and a popular styling exercise. Nautical chic is defined basically by blue and white or sailor-inspired pieces. Ready to take sail? If so, you've probably already have some nautical or nautical-inspired pieces all ready to wear. This blog post is about nautical chic. This includes nautical styles as well as some sailor-inspired pieces.

There is some nautical chic pieces for males, but I am mostly focused on nautical chic for females in this post. This was a VERY old blog post I had planned on releasing on "John's Blog Space," but never did release it to JBS. I have since updated the planned post and made it available for here on "StyleSpace by JBM."

--- Nautical Chic at a Glance ---

Even if you are not a member of your nation's Naval force (if your country has one), you can still infuse nautical-inspired chic into your wardrobe. The most common bit of nautical chic is usually in the form of striped garments with alternating white and navy blue.

There's also some sailor chic involved in the nautical style. Think about seeing images of anchors on garments. I personally have never disliked sailor button bottoms. Everything from sailor button pants and shorts to sailor button skirts only adds an extra sense of cute to the girls who with to sail the high seas of style. When I personally think of sailor style, I usually think of white sailor bell bottom pants. But of course, don't overlook things like sailor tops and sailor blouses.

The nautical look is a styling exercise that can be classy casual. Some may even try a purely classy or office-appropriate look with nautical inspiration.

That concludes a look at nautical chic. Next up, a look at nautical chic in pictures.

--- Nautical Chic in Pictures ---

Time to give you some pictures of nautical fashion and nautical-inspired fashion pieces.

White and Blue With Some Red.

I hate to use costumes to make a fashion discussion. However, here is the color combination in question:

nautical red white and blue
^ from: www.amazon.com - Hello, sailor! This costume demonstrates the combination white, navy blue, and red provide as far as nautical chic is concerned.

A combination of red, white, and blue is uniquely American. Putting these colors together in this context is very stylish for the female wanting to infuse nautical chic. Of course, one doesn't have to wear some sort of adult costume to have nautical-inspired chic. This color combination is one easy way to infuse nautical chic into a wardrobe.

Basic Nautical Chic.

nautical stripes
^ from: shop.nordstrom.com - This nautical dress demonstrates the most basic nautical look- items adorned with stripes of white and navy blue.

The most basic nautical look is that of simple striped garments with white and navy blue stripes. It is both basic and simple in expressing nautical chic.

Nautical-style Colors.

nautical sandals
^ from: www.amazon.com - These platform wedge sandals have nautical-style stripes to them.

If you fancy nautical style but want a unique twist on it, certain garments and shoes have nautical-type accents and styles to them. You can still enjoy nautical style even without it having to be white with navy blue stripes.

Hello, Sailor!

vintage sailor dress
^ from: www.amazon.com - A vintage sailor dress.

The right fashion pieces can make any girl look like a sailor. Items such as the sailor dress featured above will help provide nautical or sailor inspired chic to one's style.

Anchors.

anchor tank top
^ from: www.amazon.com - Anchors away! A quintessential element of nautical chic is with anchors.

Not to be outdone with nautical chic is the use of anchors. Anchors are VERY much a part of nautical chic.

Sailor Button Bottoms.

sailor button bottoms
^ from: www.amazon.com - High-waisted sailor button shorts.

I have actually never hated sailor button detail on bottoms. In fact, they can be a cute touch. They are a pretty touch to almost any pair of bottoms ranging from casual bottoms to more chic pieces. A lot of sailor button bottoms are usually high-waist bottoms or dresses that simply have sailor button details. Sailor button details usually are a vertical line of buttons that adorn the front of a garment. They are stylish whether on jeans, pants, shorts, or skirts.

And of honorable mention...

Japanese Schoolgirls (Honorable Mention!).

Japanese schoolgirls often wear a middy blouse and a skirt as part of their uniform for school. The outfits themselves are very nautical in nature since the blouses and such were derived from naval outfits from World War II.

So these are some of the various elements of nautical chic.

--- Nautical Chic Around the Blogosphere ---

Let these ladies take you on the high seas with nautical chic. These can be nautical stripes, nautical-type fashions, and more. So have a look at these blog posts from these fashion bloggers from around the world. These are either nautical outfits, nautical-inspired outfits, or certain sailor-inspired outfits. Remember that the key criteria for being featured is the blogger wearing items relevant to the post's topic. Fashion inspiration posts do not get featured; it has to be a blogger wearing items relevant to the topic. Because I initially made this post for "John's Blog Space" (but didn't release it on JBS) a lot of the posts I selected are fairly old. That's because the original post was compiled from about 2012. One blog's missed opportunity is another's big opportunity. So here are my finds. Get your nautical inspiration from these bloggers:

"naut nautical / romwe giveaway." (tuolomee).

--- Nautical Chic: Final Thoughts ---

Nautical chic provides some fun and interesting colors. You surely can't argue the uniquely American appeal of red, white, and blue in regards to nautical chic. Parental Advisory Explicit Content

John B. Marine | 2:49 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
"Parental Advisory Explicit Content" is usually reserved for music works that feature bad language and raunchy content. It is like a PG rating for music. It is to let parents know that the music is very offensive and raw. These days in fashion, lots of fashionable types are wearing garments with these four words emblazoned on them. It's one of the latest trends going right now. And of course, some designers have put their own spin on these words. For example, I've seen instead of "Parental Advisory Explicit Content," I've seen something like a top from Advisory that says "Rich Fashion Advisory Explicit Content." So what do I think about this trend? Find out as I go into detail about this trend.

"Parental Advisory Explicit Content" - Pictures and Inspirations.

Before I continue, let me show you an example of what it is I am trying to discuss:

Parental Advisory Explicit Content
^ from: www.amazon.com - Here is a men's T-shirt bearing the familiar graphic being discussed in this blog post.

Here are some blogging examples now (these are the only ones that immediately came to mind as I came up with this post):

"Inspiration: Flatform Sneakers and pink details" (Violetta's Style) « a hot pink beanie bearing the graphic.
"My fav #Pastel" (Violetta's Style) « the graphic in pink on a gray shirt.
(LOOKBOOK outfits using the search term "Parental") « outfits on LOOKBOOK with "Parental Advisory Explicit Content"

Now comes my thoughts on this trend.

"Parental Advisory Explicit Content" - Final Thoughts.

I personally think this is being played out and getting extremely old. Even for someone who grew up listening to raunchy hip-hop music, I think this is getting tiresome seeing the whole "Parental Advisory Explicit Content" graphic on clothing. It isn't stylish at all, and it is remotely cool (as long as you're not some poser/poseur). I'm just tired of it. This "Parental Advisory Explicit Content" is being about as overdone as the "Keep Calm and Carry On" messaged material. Only that the "Keep Calm and Carry On" deal is a bit more manageable and not as overdone.

Now that I think about it, perhaps "Parental Advisory Explicit Content" is trendy if you believe in 20-year cycles of fashion. A lot of hip-hop was at its peak in the 1990s, especially the heavy-hitters such as Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, TuPac Shakur, Ice Cube, Wu-Tang Clan, and more. All of which... producing some raw music that defined '90s hip-hop. So maybe this is sort of a tribute to this kind of music.

My problem is just that this "Parental Advisory Explicit Content" is all played-out to me. It is about as played out as those mirror image pictures some people post in blogs and outfits. I also sort of feel it is a cheap trend to try to be cool if you aren't "cool" at all. I am just tired of seeing this style expressed in fashion.

Cross-Promotion/Other Reading.

This is really the only related post I can offer as related material. Take a look at it in case you haven't done so already:

"Why So Mean?" (StyleSpace by JBM)
^ Offensive content in music can be mean, thus prompting the warning of "Parental Advisory Explicit Content." The blog post called "Why So Mean?" is my look at fashions with mean messages on them.

This post is over. Hope you enjoyed your time here.

Here is my question for your discussion pleasure:

What do you think about garments bearing the "Parental Advisory Explicit Content" graphic on them?

I have my own comments and my own opinions. You're free to agree or disagree at will. So what do you think? Let me know! Thank you for reading!
