The Right Shoes for Typical Foot Conditions

If you experience chronic foot pain or another foot-related condition, you’re not alone. In fact, the majority of Americans suffer from foot pain, yet many of us don’t know how to treat those symptoms or whether they require medical attention. You may be surprised to learn that simply buying a new pair of supportive boots or sandals may be enough to alleviate your pain.

While shoes alone can’t cure every condition, making your feet more comfortable is a great starting point for addressing many common foot symptoms. This article will cover some causes and types of foot pain as well as the shoes you should consider purchasing to reduce your symptoms.


Why Does Foot Pain Happen?

Pain can result from a number of factors, and the best way to determine the source of your pain is by considering the location and degree of pain. Heel pain, for example, is often caused by plantar fasciitis, a condition which becomes more common as we get older and may itself be the result of poorly fitting shoes.

On the other hand, more severe pain may be the sign of a heel spur, while symptoms in other areas could be related to something entirely different. That said, most mild to moderate pain and even some more severe cases can be helped simply by switching to a more comfortable pair of shoes.


How Shoes Can Alleviate Your Symptoms

The wrong pair of shoes can hurt your feet in a variety of ways, whether it’s from providing too little cushioning, not having arch support, or simply not fitting correctly. High heels, for example, can force your foot into an unnatural position, leading over time to pain in the ball of the foot.

If you have heel pain, your heel is likely overstressed as a result of wearing shoes that don’t distribute strain equally throughout the foot. In addition to finding a pair with better arch support and shock absorption, you may also benefit from custom inserts, which are designed based on the unique shape of your foot.

Other conditions, like bunions and swollen feet, may be aggravated by wearing shoes that are too tight or that don’t provide ventilation. You should also take your shoes off when possible and allow your feet to rest in order to give them time to recover. These small steps will have you feeling better in no time!

We all take our feet for granted, but they are often uncomfortable and overworked, which can lead to mild or more severe pain as well as other common conditions. Your shoes may be doing more damage than you think, so consider looking for a new pair so you can start feeling better as soon as possible.
