Half-and-Half

John B. Marine | 3:40 PM | | |
A fashionista divided- half-and-half outfits is one garment halved with two different colors or patterns Wearing two things at once usually leads to a hot mess. What about half-and-half clothing, though? From tops to dresses and even swimwear, half-and-half garments offer two different sides of one garment. Hair can even be part of this half-and-half trend. Regardless, I will give my full effort blogging about the half-and-half trend. Should you care? How do I feel about it? Find out in this blog post!

Half and Half

Let me provide some pictures to help set up this blog post and let you know what I am talking about (best examples I could find):

As you can tell, the half-and-half fashion trend is a unique way of merging two different colors or patterns into one. It first sort of surfaced starting around 2017 or 2018. We normally think of clashing patterns as a fashion faux pas. It is a fashion don't often times to try to have two wild patterns dominate one outfit. Most half-and-half garments are mostly two different styles split down the middle. It provides the character of a split personality.

The half-and-half style consists of either two solid colors together or a solid color matched with print. The former can be an alternative of color blocking, and the latter can be a serious mismatch if done wrong. Two different fabrics can also make the half-and-half trend unique. So it is possible to have a pair of denim bottoms matched up with some kind of sequin pants. What the half-and-half trend brings usually is that of a solid matched with some pattern. Maybe my only memory of the half-and-half style was when I remember (I think) Katy Perry once wearing a pants suit that was black one on half and white on the other.

Sometimes, the half-and-half trend can involve one garment with two different materials. For example, a pair of pants can have one side like an average pair of jeans while the other side can be some sequin leggings or something. This is another case of trying to have a best-of-both-worlds approach to dressing. Though, some opposed to this can say this is just another case of not knowing how exactly you want to style yourself. But... your call.

The half-and-half fashion trend can also pertain to hair. One person's hair could be one color on one side, and then a different color on the other side. Again- split down the middle. So in this instance, someone can be a blonde on one side, and then a brunette on the other. It provides yet another case of a split personality.

I give you the intro, now I give thoughts. Next section, please...

Thoughts on the Half-and-Half Trend

To me, I am not feeling this trend. I think the half-and-half trend is a pathetic excuse to try to merge two different pattern styles into one outfit. The end result is just something that lacks coherence and is a hot mess of fail often times. This style is for people who can't make up their own mind style-wise. Then again, maybe some fashionable types DO know how they want to dress, but the way they show that style is what makes the half-and-half style so confounding.

The only way I can see the half-and-half fashion style working is if someone needed something to suggest the most significant fashion styling exercise of the late 2010s. Other than that, avoid this like the Plague.

Should You Try the Half-and-Half Trend?

Sure- that is, if you want to show you have a split mind and a split personality on fashion. There are much better ways trying to bring together two different styles into one. This half-and-half trend is NOT one of them! This split down the middle stuff just leads to a hot mess of fail and usually doesn't end with stylish results. If you have something like a floral dress that has a light style to it and a dark style to it, pick one or the other rather than have both at once. Especially with garments split down the middle style-wise, you face a styling nightmare. How do you style one garment that looks like two different garments at once split down the middle? Also, don't get me started on jeans or pants that are denim on one side but with some other kind of pant on the other.

Say what you want- this trend is a styling nightmare and truly worthy of looking like a hot mess. Maybe you can get it right and style yourself right with half-and-half styles, but I just don't see it. It is the worst-case scenario of trying to style what seems like one garment with two different styles to it. Never have I found this split personality style deal to be stylish or even "cool." Try conveying ONE message for a change rather than try to say multiple things at once with no sense of coherence.
