On the Fringe

John B. Marine | 12:20 PM | | | | |
(UPDATED: March 17, 2013)

Fringe details on garments and accessories offer some spice to items. Seeing fringed details are almost like seeing icicles hanging. Fringes can be fairly minimal and not as numerous... or they can be top-to-bottom fringes. There is a method to the madness of fringes. If you're crazy over fringes, then maybe I can make you just a little more crazy about them. The goal is usually to HELP one's problems rather than add to them. If that's true, then I don't think I'm going to help too many females out there with this post.

Let's begin!

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S):

MAR 17 2013 - edited one blogging inspiration.

--- Fringes ---

Fringed details on garments and other fashion items are like dangling icicles. Most fringed shoes and garments usually have these fringe details mostly on the sides or along the bottom. You can either think of these fringes as adding spice to an otherwise boring-looking garment or accessory, or you can think of them as attention-grabbers that make a statement. Whatever you think about fringes, these are all about making statements. They add some toughness and style without going too overboard.

Fringe in Pictures.

So what can have fringes adorned on them? Here are some of many:

fringe shoes
^ from: www.shopbop.com - A fringed pair of shoes.

fringe handbag
^ from: www.zappos.com - A fringed handbag.

fringe scarf
^ from: www.amazon.com - Fringed scarves can be very stylish.

Fringed items are not just relegated to shoes and accessories. Even clothes can have fringed details. Have a look at these examples:

fringe bikini top
^ from: www.amazon.com - This bandeau bikini top features fringed details at the front.

fringed bikini bottom
^ from: www.amazon.com - This cute bikini bottom has fringed details along the side ties.

fringe dress
^ from: www.amazon.com - Even dresses and tops can have fringe detail.

So almost any sort of garment or accessory can be fringed. No matter what, fringe is very much cool and "in" for fashionistas of all varieties.

When styling fringed items, it is best to go in moderation with fringe. Wear or carry only one fringed item. It would be a bit overkill to have more than one fringed item as part of your outfit. For example, you don't want to have a large fringed handbag to go along with some fringed knee-high boots. One fringed item is fine.

--- Fringes Around the Blogosphere ---

The first blogger to come to mind from the ones I follow is my blogging friend Danielle of "indie.electronic.alternative." I often refer to her as a Wild Child. So I will feature some of the fringed items seen in her blog posts to start things off. You are free to check out other fashionistas who fancy fringes. And of course- feel free to follow any other blogs whom you think are great. Each item has a basic summary of what fringed item(s) is/are showcased in each post. With that said, fringe around the blogosphere:

"slowshine streds giveaway & zoeybean designs winner" (indie.electronic.alternative.) « fringe ankle boots.
"Palette of Pastels" (Burst of Color) « comfy boots with fringes on the sides.
"Life is never 'short' of colour" (Veil of Illusions) « small fringed handbag.
"The Window Doll (archive look)" (Glam and Fab Chameleon) « large fringed handbag.
"BEACH FRINGE" (HAUTE AND REBELLIOUS) « fringed top with a bikini.
"Fringe Attitude" (Maytedoll) « fringed wedge booties.
"Miami "Winter" Layering" (Nany's Klozet) « fringed booties and handbag with some fringe.
"Fringe All Over" (Sara's Sweet Style) « a fringed kimono.
"Country Rock" (She Said He Said) « a fringed necklace.

These are among many different items that are fringed and the style impact they make.

--- Final Thoughts on Fringe ---

No matter what fringed garments, shoes, or accessories there are; fringed detail offer some sort of character to garments and accessories. Maybe not character to the extent of being overly tough and in-your-face, but these touches offer the "look at me" appeal to make them worthy of your attention. Try fringe in moderation. Having only one fringed garment or accessory is perfectly fine. Going with more than one fringed item can be overkill, and you don't want to overpower your outfit to any extreme degree with one too many fringed items. Go proudly with your fringes!
