Sperry Top-Sider originated the boat shoes. This footwear company offers up boat shoes of many kinds for all walks of life. They also offer various other kinds of footwear ranging from sneakers to sandals to boots. However, this company is all about the nautical lifestyle. This blog post is my own look at Sperry Top-Sider and some of their famous shoes. It will be a chance for you to get to enjoy (or hopefully enjoy) what all Sperry Top-Sider has to offer.
PLEASE NOTE: The views expressed in all of my posts regarding specific brands are all personal opinion. I am not sponsored or paid to discuss specific brands I discuss in blog posts. They are all personal opinion and provided for educational purposes.
While Sperry Top-Sider offers items other than footwear, this blog post is mostly about their footwear.

Sperry Top-Sider
Let me begin with a quote:
"A Passion for the Sea"
-Sperry Top-Sider slogan
(info source: www.sperrytopsider.com) The history of Sperry Top-Sider dates back to 1935 in New England. Paul Sperry (the creator of Sperry Top-Sider) watched his dog be able to run across an area so successfully. Paul Sperry wanted to make shoes with great enough traction to safely and successfully walk on the deck of his ship. Ever since the birth of those boat shoes, Sperry Top-Sider has long been a company to draw inspiration and character from being out on water.
Today's Sperry Top-Sider features many people of many walks of life wearing the iconic boat shoes. Even if you're wearing boat shoes from knockoff brands or from other brands entirely, you at least have Sperry Top-Sider to thank for making such comfortable and stylish shoes. These are shoes that could basically be worn all year 'round. The shoes are enjoyed from casual wear to even preppy-type fashions.
How do you rock your Sperrys?

How about a little deeper look at Sperry Top-Sider and their shoes?
Bluefish.
^ from: www.zappos.com - The "Bluefish" shoes from Sperry Top-Sider are perhaps the most famous shoes from this company.
Sperry Top-Sider's most famous shoe is the Bluefish. These lace-up shoes are like a happy medium between sneakers and flats. Variants of the Bluefish can be adorned with girly accents such as animal prints and sequins. These are shoes that have two eyes to them. If you note, note how the laces are on the back half of the shoes as opposed to the usual sneakers and oxfords that have the laces and eyes across the front of the shoes.
You will commonly see the Bluefish shoes in Linen Oat. However, many other styles are available for these popular boat shoes. I've seen females wear boat shoes with skinny jeans (even with jean legs rolled up), cropped pants, and one I really like- short shorts. I tend to like these Bluefish shoes paired with (at least for my female audience) a cute pair of short shorts. For some reason, I'm not really fond of the "Bluefish" shoes paired with skirts or dresses.
I constructed this look on Polyvore long ago featuring boat shoes. This is just one last piece regarding the "Bluefish" shoes and how I would style them:
Are you girls out there digging the "Bluefish" boat shoes?
Angelfish.
^ from: www.amazon.com - These are the "Angelfish" shoes from Sperry Top-Sider. Think of them like a boat shoe variant of ballet flats.
If the Bluefish is a happy medium between sneakers and flats, then the Angelfish is like a boat shoe variant of ballet flats. The same cute style ballet flats provide are met with the cool and casual style of boat/deck shoes. Unlike the "Bluefish" boat shoes, I think these shoes work better with skirts and dresses in addition to pants and shorts looks. I don't think you girls out there will be disappointed with these.
Billfish.
^ from: www.zappos.com - The "Billfish" boat shoes from Sperry Top-Sider are very cool for guys.
A pair of Sperry Top-Siders a guy can get into are the "Billfish" boat shoes. The "Billfish" shoes are cool and casual to pair with any number of casual bottoms. So don't overlook these shoes to go with your casual outfits.
Other Sperry Top-Sider Shoes.
While Sperry Top-Sider is about "a passion for the sea," they also offer some more unique shoes that aren't exactly in the nautical spirit. They also offer a wide variety of sneakers, sandals, and boots. I will touch up on a few Sperry Top-Sider shoes outside of their boat shoes.^ from: shop.nordstrom.com - The premier line of shoes for men from Sperry Top-Sider are of the Gold Cup variety, such as these oxford shoes for men.
^ from: shop.nordstrom.com - Feeling sporty? These are "Sea Kite" sneaker for men.
^ from: www.amazon.com - "Goldfish" from Sperry Top-Sider is a wedge cousin of the "Angelfish" shoes.
^ from: www.amazon.com - The "Emory" booties from Sperry Top-Sider are a pair of lace-up booties.
^ from: www.dsw.com - If splashing in puddles is your thing, Sperry Top-Sider's "Pelican" rain boots will be to your liking.
^ from: shop.nordstrom.com - The "Albatross" lace-up boots were made for the chic tough girl.
You now have yourself an idea of Sperry Top-Sider and the many shoes they offer.
Sperry Top-Sider: Final Thoughts
Sperry Top-Sider offers up footwear inspired and influenced by the nautical lifestyle. They are very much cool and casual shoes that have a great deal of style to them. Maybe they lack the counterculture appeal of companies like Converse and Dr. Martens. Maybe they aren't the kind of shoes most people associate with having character. Even still, there is no denying the classy casual appeal of Sperry Top-Sider and their shoes. They are very much fun to wear. Even if you have some sort of knockoff boat shoes, at least show some love for the American original since 1935- Sperry Top-Sider.

I like the "Emory" booties! I remember the classic boat shoes being very popular with tight-rolled jeans in junior high. I think they're great as a casual and comfortable shoe with a sundress.
